January 2014 Recap

I made many more of my cross blocks, I only have around 15 more to go I think!  Because I used three different gray solids I am in a bit of a quandary as to a layout at this point.

I am making two Lined Drawstring Bags (pattern here) for a friend's two boys to house their Legos when they're on the go.  These will be finished by tomorrow since we are seeing them for Super Bowl Sunday (yay for deadlines!).

I needed some therapeutic quilting one day and was staring at my Penny Patch quilt scraps and just started making slabs a la the Sunday Morning Quilts book.  I have a recipient in mind for this but I am worried that the princess fabric may make it too childish… We shall see when its done!

My scrap vomit quilt is all quilted!  Now its time for some scrappy binding :)

I won a giveaway for the first time ever from Erin over at The Lazy Quilter.  I got a gift certificate to Christa Quilts and picked up the pastel bundle of pearl bracelets and a fat quarter of the polka dot print on the bottom.  It was such a generous gift and fun to buy something I've been eyeing for awhile.  But even better than the giveaway were the sweet words Erin wrote about me in her blog post when she announced I'd won.  It was as if my own mother had written them! Thanks again Erin.  Glad we met thru the Penny Patch Quilt Along!

In the spirit of meeting more people out in the quilting blogosphere I am linking up with the Fresh Sewing Day and Small Blog Meet  over at Lily's Quilts.

  1. Hi Rachel, your quilts and blocks are beautiful, I don't really think the princess fabric is to childish, we all have that inner child even when we're in our 60's lol. I'm popping in from lily quilts to say hello.

  7. I love seeing what other quilters are working on. The gray for the neutral is an interesting choice and am looking forward to seeing them all put together. Thank you for visiting me at Quiltmouse through the Small Blog Meet.

  8. Hi Rachel! What a beautiful purchase. I knew it was a better choice for you to pick fabric! These will look so fabulous in so many things (and yay that it was something you'd been holding out for). It looks like you've been busy (I'm only catching up on my blog reading now, so sorry I didn't comment earlier), I think your grey crosses look great, and you know that your fabric for Penny patch was brilliant, so I think using your scraps to make slabs is a brilliant idea! Hope February treats you well!
