When I started picking out fabrics I consciously left out any true greens, and tried to use more solids than I normally do. When I started to layout the triangles though I realized it was looking flat, so I threw in a lime green solid and a few other greens and it made all the difference! I used Rachel of Stitched In Color's triangle quilt tutorial. This was my second triangle quilt-- the first being a small baby quilt-- and wow do you need a lot of triangles to make a large twin sized quilt!
The triangles are all from my stash or scrap bins, the binding is scrappy, and the backing is an Ikea alphabet print that had been a duvet cover (I cut it into two) with 3 large scraps along the long edge to make it wide enough. The alphabet duvet cover came with a pillowcase, so I gave her the pillowcase too. On the pillowcase I outlined in embroidery thread one of the H's since that's her first initial.
Sewing iscosceles triangles together meant a lot of seam ripping for me! I love the final result but it may be awhile until I make a quilt like this again. I quilted it on my home sewing machine in a V formation along one side of each seam.
My sister says she gets many many compliments on her quilt and she loves it so it was all worth it! Here's a pic of her dorm room! I love to see a quilt in action :)
I'm entering this quilt into The Large Quilt Category. Thanks Amy for hosting the Blogger's Quilt Festival and to you for stopping by to see my quilt! I am so happy to finally be participating!
Loved both of your Blogger's quilt festival entries!

ReplyDeleteWow! I love this pattern and the colurs you used. It's so bright and happy. A triangle quilt has been on my to-do list this last year but I'm too afraid of the points... Congrats on a beautiful and surely well loved quilt!
ReplyDeleteAs someone who is mid way through a triangle quilt (and not doing so well with it might I add !) I know how much work went into this finish. It's stunningly beautiful and would be a great talking piece in a college dorm room. Im sure your sister was thrilled to be the recipient of such a lovely gift!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! I love it. I can't believe how big it is! Your sister is one lucky girl.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt just makes me smile - it is so bright and cheery. What a wonderful gift. I hope my triangle quilt turns out half as good.
ReplyDeleteStunning! I love triangle quilts but have been afraid to try one. Maybe if each triangle was a lot larger it would be less stressful? That is one heckuva lot of triangles in your gorgeous, colorful quilt! Love!
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing!

ReplyDeleteReally beautiful! I have made one triangle quilt and the trimming nearly did me in, but. I'm drawn to make another sometime...!
ReplyDeleteThe first bed sized quilt I made was this pattern. Chosen by my daughter and also made when she went to university. What did me in was cutting all those triangles! Then I had to sew them all together! Still everytime I see it now I think it is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I love the look of triangle quilts but not sure I fancy tackling one
ReplyDeleteI love a triangle quilt and yours does not disappoint. Love the back too
