The first quilt I'm entering in the Blogger's Quilt Festival is my Royal Rumble quilt, my version of Katy's Scrap Vomit quilt. The moment I saw this quilt I knew I had to make it, and had dreams of this quilt for a week before I started cutting into my scrap pile. The entire front (with the exception of the solid black in the rings) and binding are all 2" finished squares cut from scrap fabric. This pattern was so great because even ugly fabrics look fantastic when cut down so small and paired with beauties. I love looking at it and seeing all my past projects in one.
I gave myself a break and used a 108" wide red tone on tone polka dot backing, but in hindsight I really wish I'd used more larger pieces of scraps. Oh well! I still like the red (and who doesn't like polka dots!?), but it would have been fantastic to use up even more scraps and stash.
It finishes at 98" square and I quilted it on the diagonal through every square in one direction on my home sewing machine. It was a beast!
When I explained to my husband that it was all out of scraps from previous projects he proclaimed "So it's like a royal rumble… you better keep this one." So that's how it got named, and it now resides on our guest bed :)
I love love love scrappy quilts, so much so that when I'm cutting up new fabric I get excited when I get to add scraps to my scrap bins, and I start thinking of all the new possibilities! Hope you've enjoyed this scrap quilt! I'm entering this quilt into The Scrappy Quilts Category. Thanks Amy for hosting the Blogger's Quilt Festival and to you for stopping by to see my quilt! I am so happy to finally be participating!
A great scrappy quilt - so colorful. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteNice way to use up scraps. I like your name for it- way better. Enjoy sleeping under it- sweet dreams of quilts past.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt and I love the idea of using up scraps this way. Congratulations on having to buy practically nothing for this one. I've decided to make one too, but I just have to collect enough scraps. I have the idea though, that scrap collecting just happens by itself.
ReplyDeleteI like that design. All of those pieces! It's a great quilt.
ReplyDeleteCool quilt! I've thought about doing this pattern, but I'm stopped by the idea of sewing all those individual pieces. You've done a great job!
ReplyDeleteOh I love this quilt! Well done for managing to quilt it on your home machine.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the way you chose both blue and grey centre motifs and how you've laid them out.
ReplyDeleteReally wonderful quilt! I think that's what I love about scrap quilts too--all the possibliities.:)
